1-2-3 Saturdays: Barcelona Edition

1 Idea

Doing What You Love

Coming to Barcelona had such an exciting build up. Mainly because it got me thinking about how lucky I am to combine two things I love and value most - travelling and fitness.

It’s got me thinking about what this whole experience created for me.

Enjoying nice weather, dipping my toes in the sea, savouring nice food and enjoying great company.

But how often do you do this?

The majority of these experiences have a lower barrier to entry than you think. It just requires some careful planning and a desire to minimise your ‘what ifs’.

When was the last time you done something you really loved?

2 Positive Outcomes

Keeping My Mind At Ease

The couple of days leading up to an event can often be the most frustrating.

Nerves, excitement and a feeling of just wanting to do it can make it not the most pleasant experience.

It takes you away from being present in the moment and unable to appreciate where you are and what‘s around you.

Going down to the beach yesterday to try out the outdoor gym and dip my toes in the sea calmed me down a lot.

It was difficult to wrap my head around the fact I was sitting on a beach in the middle of November with my top off just chilling.

What it done was just make me appreciate the journey to get to this point.

Energy Levels

Being completely honest I’ve never felt this excited for an event.

I have no niggles, fully recovered and feeling in the shape of my life.

Even after 2 days in Barcelona my body feels great.

When I compare this to previous events, like the ultras or photoshoots, I’m usually deprived of energy through recovering from 3 hour runs or less food.

The prep for Hyrox hasn’t had any road bumps like this other than having a greater appetite than usual.

As a whole, its been way more manageable to blend the training into my lifestyle.

Less has had to be scarified.

Sleep and recovery have been prioritised.

My relationship with alcohol is in a great place.

And I’ve trained harder than ever.

3 Learnings

One Of My Favourite Cities

Yep, Barcelona is now one of my top visited cities, despite the limited time here.

The people are so friendly, the food has been amazing and there’s so much to do.

It’s the perfect blend of city break and beach holiday.

One of my favourite parts has been the array of different languages I’ve heard. It’s always cool to hear people talking in something than English.

I’ll be back Barcelona.

Making The Effort

On the subject of languages, I’ve been continuing the learn some Spanish.

I’ve definitely noticed that when you try to say something and you maybe quite can’t get it right, they help you out.

Which definitely gets noticed and appreciated.

It’s Go Time

I’ve done a great job keeping my mind at rest and enjoying my time in Barcelona.

Now its time to go send it!
