1-2-3 Sundays: Community, My Mindset Shift & Fun

1 Idea

Community

Yesterday's Ready For Anything event reinforced how powerful the community is.

But what actually is community:

the condition of sharing or having certain attitudes and interests in common.

The most important is that definition, for me, is attitudes.

If you're constantly surrounded by people with negative, fixed mindsets when you want to improve yourself, it might be worth asking yourself if these are the people you wish to continue spending your time and energy with.

Ultimately, the common interest may not exist anymore.

It's not a bad thing.

It just means you're growing and changing.

The flip side of all of this is true too.

Spending your time with people who have positive attitudes, are willing to help you, and go through discomfort themselves in the pursuit of a better life then you'll naturally begin to adopt these mindsets and behaviours too.

Are you spending time and energy in the right community?

2 Positive Outcomes

Ready For Momentum 2.0

This weekend we ran the first of our in-person events of 2024.

Over 50 people attended to watch some amazing talks, participate in self-development tasks and, most importantly, speak to others.

We had a guest speaker for the first time - Jon Wynn. A man who's literal been in battle but also battled with addiction. Hearing his story first hand was inspiring. His journey shows you can change your life around.

The purpose of this event was to set the vision for 2024 and map out what you want to do and achieve.

One of the overriding thoughts I got from speaking to many of the guys and girls there was that the struggles they experience aren't dissimilar from what other people go through.

Everyone experiences self-doubt, drops in momentum and daily battles in their head.

It's definitely the best event we've run so far.

A Mindset I've Changed

I posted this about one of the biggest parts of my training - zone 2 cardio.

This is operating at the level where you're heart rate is about 60-70% of your max heart rate. Essentially, when you can hold a conversation and still run/cycle.

My outlook on zone 2 training has changed a lot over the last year.

I saw it as a necessary evil at first because I found it boring whereas now I look forward to those days where I can sit on the bike reading or go slow on the treadmill while listening to a podcast or audiobook.

3 Learnings

My Second Book Of The Year

This week I finished listening to Cameron Hanes Endure.

I'll be honest it wasn't my favourite book I've ever listened to however there were some lessons from it.

Hanes is a bow hunter in America and probably one of the best in the world.

His message is essentially that to achieve anything you need to work hard, make a few sacrifices and be willing to endure some suffering along the way.

One of the other takeaways is that you should become obsessed with what you're good at if you want to become the best at it.

Hearing him talk about his achievements in ultra-running was pretty cool too.

Only You Can Make The Change

There was a lot of conversation around addiction at the event and one of the most important points that got brought up was that only the person can make the change themselves.

It doesn't matter how much you help someone or guide them towards programs and people to help them, the person has to decide to change themselves.

The same goes for a lot in life.

Only you can decide to change the way you live.

Only you can stop the never-ending cycle of highs and lows that you feel stuck in.

Start doing what you said you would and see the change take place.
