1-2-3 Sundays: Routine, Moustaches & Downtime

1 Theme

Change of Routine

This week has been a bit out of sorts.

It began with some time off work, then a day on a course on Wednesday followed by the remaining 2 days in the office.

It meant my everyday routines were out of sync.

Being in a routine is great as it allows you to find the systems and habits that work best for you. Switching it up from time to time allows you some space to review and reflect on what's working well and what can be improved.

For me, I worked out in the afternoon for a change on Wednesday which meant I could take my time with my session. I was able to fuel up in the morning to ensure the workout had the best chance of being a success.

2 Positive Outcomes

Time Outdoors

I made the most of my time off by hiking up Ben Nevis.

It's not the most taxing of walks (despite its height) but long. The path is fine at the lower altitudes but becomes rocky as you ascend nearer the summit.

The main benefit of these hikes is spending time outdoors and being present in nature. It gets you away from the stresses of daily life.

Not only can you improve your physical health from hiking but you also benefit mentally too - there's a sense of achievement at the top knowing you're higher than about 99% of the population at that moment.

Half-Marathon Prep

My longest run in prep for the half marathon was this week - 15 km.

I'm at the point where I'm focusing on my pace. I had targets for the first 10 km and then the final 5 km.

When going on longer runs, I find it takes me roughly 15 minutes to settle in and find my pace. Obviously, if there are hills I'm able to adjust accordingly and get back to where I need to be.

The race is in 5 weeks. There's still plenty of training to be done.

3 Things I've Learned

I Do/Don't Suit A Moustache

I channelled my inner Miles Teller as Rooster this week and gave myself a moustache.

It was more of a joke than anything else really.

I enjoyed it while it lasted.

I'll leave it up to you to decide whether I suit it or not.

Buy Holiday Clothes Early

Booking a holiday for the end of August is great:

  • It's usually a little cheaper than the school holidays
  • The weather is still fantastic

A downside is not buying your summer clothes before they're no longer in the shops.

Buy them as if your holiday is in June/July.

We suffered slightly by not buying early enough so by the time we went to get clothes, there wasn't much left to choose from.

On the flip side, a lot of the holiday clothes I got were on sale.

Swings and roundabouts.

I'm Ready For Downtime

It's been a solid few months of pushing hard. There's been a lot of momentum gained and progression made. I'm in a good spot and ready to enjoy my holiday.

Time to go down the gears for a couple of weeks.

I won't be posting any like this but there's content coming out in the meantime.

See ya soon!

Before you go...

I'm running the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in October for the Beatson Cancer Charity.
