1-2-3 Sundays: 4G, Opportunites & New Challenges
1 Theme
No Internet
Imagine running out of 4G in 2023.
Yep, this happened to me this week. Mainly because I went through a lot when we were up north at the start of the month.
Despite not having access when I'm out and about I've experienced the benefits of fewer distractions from my phone.
I can be more present in conversations and my mind feels clearer at times too.
It's made me consider how connected we are through social media and how reliant we are on the internet.
My contract renews at the start of June so there are only a few days left of feeling like I'm back at the start of the smartphone era.
2 Positive Outcomes
An Exciting Opportunity
I got presented with an opportunity to present in another coaching group next month.
Honestly, I wasn't expecting it however I'm very grateful to be asked. It's another chance to plant seeds of growth.
Back On The Street
Saturday was my first run since the ultra. It doesn't feel like it was 3 weeks ago.
Anyway, being away for the weekend gave me the chance to run somewhere new. I always enjoy running when I'm in a new place because it gives you a chance to better see the place you're visiting.
Overall, I ran 10km and felt like I could've gone another 10. The legs felt at their best again after focusing on recovery the last few weeks.
This is the first week in about 6 weeks where I've completed all my sessions for the week.
3 Learnings
Residual Beneficiary
When all debts and expenses of an estate are settled the reminder of what's left goes to the residual beneficiary. They pick up the residue of what's left over.
One of the drawbacks of being a residual beneficiary is their lack of control in the situation, often finding themselves at the mercy of executors and trustees.
Another is the expectations they place on what they expect to receive. Expectations may not always align with the reality of the estate's value or the distribution process. If the actual inheritance falls short of expectations, it can be disappointing.
If we look at our lives and all the expenses (monetary, energy and time) we have - what's the residual beneficiary?
What is last to get your attention?
If there are expectations placed around whatever this may be and a feeling of disappointment when it doesn't turn out the way you expected then should this be your residual beneficiary?
Inputs > Outputs
According to Nir Eyal, your two biggest inputs are time and attention.
In his recent appearance on The Diary Of A CEO podcast, he spoke about how, as a society, we let outputs shape our work.
This means we let our time and attention become dictated by output. For example, I spent quite a few late nights studying and completing coursework when I was at uni. In reality, I could've planned my days better to avoid having to break boundaries resulting in poor sleep and creating a distraction-free environment (no phone etc).
I'm now conscious about I allocate my time especially when spinning a lot of plates.
This Is Harder Than I Thought
My current training program contains a sweaty 20-minute EMOM including a prowler push.
This is the first time I've ever done it and it's more difficult than I expected.
This means there's room for improvement - I welcome the challenge.
Have a great week everyone!
