1-2-3 Sundays: Flow, Battles & Easy Wins
1 Theme
Finding Flow
The Google definition of a flow state is:
the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.
I'm now at this point of preparing for the upcoming photoshoot. I've found what works to maintain constant energy levels throughout the day and also how not to be left feeling ravenous as I push further into prep.
A successful dieting phase is dependent on what you learned from your previous experience.
You'll have a better understanding of how your body responds to training and food, how the number of scales fluctuates regularly and what you want to do better than last time.
This is the first week I've noticed significant changes as my body becomes leaner and fuller. Training intensity has been at its best.
2 Positive Outcomes
Battling My Mind
Despite my running accomplishments, I still have many battles in my mind when I'm out training.
I pushed a morning run to an evening this week.
It threw me off completely.
I felt sluggish and slow during it.
There was a point where I thought about quitting but I couldn't.
No, stop complaining and embrace it - is what I told myself.
I knew in the end I would be fine and glad I done it.
These battles in our happen every day. Who we choose to let win defines the rate of progress.
Easy Wins
I can't believe how much of a change swapping my shopping day from Sunday to Saturday has made.
By 9am, we had:
- Been to gym
- Done the shopping for the week
This is the easiest way to gain momentum on a Saturday.
Last Sunday, I was way more relaxed and less stressed about having to get household tasks done.
How can you bag easy wins at the weekend?
3 Learnings
Journaling
Honestly, I've been sporadic in my frequency of journaling.
It's a tool I've found a lot of benefits from in the past but recently its been deprioritised.
After sitting down and answering some questions on Saturday morning, I knew I had to reintroduce this into my daily routine.
This week my commitment is to journal every day.
I've got a list of prompts here.
Energy Bandwidth
When you push for big goals, you end up spinning a lot of plates.
The first 6 months of this year were a time like this.
Every Saturday, I had a training run or something planned. It felt like I was ticking boxes and I couldn't fully switch off.
Since completing Run The Blades. I've noticed my stress levels decrease without the pressure of long, hard sessions looming over me. It's also been a refreshing change of pace to have little weekend plans other than to enjoy them.
Enjoying The Simple Things
I've been making a point of taking pleasure in the simple moments. Whether that's a coffee or a walk outside. Or even the food I'm eating at every meal.
Expressing gratitude in this way can you feel more positive emotions in a fast-paced and stressful world.
Plus, it reminds you of what it's like to feel human.
I put the Ben Lomond climb on hold. I've not decided on a new date yet however, I will be doing it before the end of the summer.
