1-2-3 Sundays: Discipline, Star Wars & Red Wine

1 Theme

November Is All About This

I spoke last week about this being separation season and how it is for people to park their progress until the new year because it’s dark, cold and miserable.

That why this month is focussed on discipline.

To do so, the challenge has been set to nail the mornings and including something you wouldn’t usually do for the 30 days of November.

For me it’s 10 minutes of mobility work before starting my day.

I know not everyone can add more to their mornings due to life circumstances however you win the first battle of the day.

My challenge to you is to commit to a discipline challenge for the remainder of November.

What provides you a steady amount of discomfort each day that you can maintain for the rest of the month.

Let me know what you choose to do.

2 Positive Outcomes

The Team Environment

We’re now deep into Hyrox season.

Barcelona, London and Glasgow are the next big events that some of the RFA team are competing at.

Some of the group got together for a session where we worked on movement standards, technique, some timed tests and then a meaty AMRAP at the end.

Safe to say everyone learned something during the session.

Star Wars Mega Marathon

Aimee and I completed the MCU timeline from start to finish last year so we’ve now decided to do the same with Star Wars.

Admittedly, I’ve been hesistant to do this because of all the Disney TV series and the way the last 2 movies went (very disappointed).

Going back and watching the old films I haven’t watched properly in close to 10 years is fun though. There’s so many wee details that tie up loose ends and a lot of foreshadowing.

To me surprise, Andor has been a standout so far. Would recommend.

3 Learnings

Keep It Visual

When you’re starting out something that you want to commit to but know will be challenging, keeping a visual tracker can keep you accountable.

This also allows you to see the progress you’re making too rather than winging it and hoping for the best.

If you’re missing days too you can see any patterns that develop so know where your weakest points during the week are.

Here’s mine here:

Also leaving this here to accountable for the end of the month.

Red Wine Goes With Pizza

I’m not even a massive fan of wine.

We happened to be making pizzas for dinner on Saturday and one of the bottles we got gifted said it paired well with pizza so I decided to give it a shout.

Turns out it did.

And it was enjoyable.

The Truth of When You Improve

When I started my running journey, my expectation were low.

The goal was simply to run 10km with no time in mind - just get it done.

I moved past this goal fairly quickly and realised that even though the habit of going was easier, the actual running didn’t wasn’t getting easier.

In fact, it actually became harder.

This sounds contradictory but you set a standard for yourself that you want to achieve. To maintain and then push past requires more effort than it took to get you there in the first place.

Going at your limit never gets easier with training, you just go faster or get stronger. You need to learn to revel in this challenge to explore your physical limits and welcome any suffering that results as a chance to get mentally strong.

Anything worth the effort to get there is worth the reward at the end - fulfilment.
