1-2-3 Sundays: Personal Standards, Hyrox & Biscoff
1 Theme
Personal Standards
I'll be honest.
My standards this week haven't been where I want to be.
Increased screen time, not journaling, less overall movement.
It's not where I want to operate.
I know this because I felt it in my lower energy levels.
I could continue with the same because it's the path of least resistance. It's much easier to sit on my phone than put it away and read a book.
Going forward, I'm going back to basics and using a habit tracker to record my energy-building tasks throughout the day.
- Daily Journaling
- Reading every night
- Phone boundaries
Taking action is the antidote.
2 Positive Outcomes
Hyrox
It's about time I signed up for this.
It's a new challenge for me and the style of training will be different to what I'm used to. More importantly, I'll be well out of my comfort zone.
Plus, it's in Barcelona.
Disconnected But Connecting
Hillwalking has many benefits.
My 2 favourites are as follows:
- Being away from the outside world and totally immersed in nature. You can switch off from the daily grind and enjoy the scenery (weather dependent).
- Improving the connection with the people you're with. There's no distraction to the conversation.
You chat a lot of nonsense at times but it opens up who you all are as people. Plus, you get to see the feeling of accomplishment when you reach the top.
3 Learnings
Parkinson's Law
When there's a lot on your plate, you can see how productive you can actually become.
This is due to the amount of time you set for a task and the effort you put in to complete it.
Less time = more effort
More time = less effort
It's probably what explains why we as humans love leaving everything very close to the deadline. We think we have more time to so push it back as far as we can then end up in a rush to get it completed.
It's also important to recognise that effort does not always equal quality.
Overall Fitness
Hiking up 2 Munros (Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ime) gave me a good indication of where I'm at going into next weekend's ultra.
I didn't struggle with the elevation and terrain - we were literally going up a waterfall.
After falling last weekend and not getting the run I hoped to get, I feel way better after completing the Munros.
Melted Biscoff
I thought dark chocolate on my oats was the one.
Biscoff spread hits different though.
Due to the upcoming ultra, I put the Ben Lomond climb on hold. I've decided on a new date yet however, I will be doing it before the end of the summer.
You donate on my JustGiving here.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
