1-2-3 Sundays: Doughnuts, Writing & Environment

Listening To My Body

I'm into the penultimate week of marathon training. This week was a taper down.

My calf was bugging me last weekend so I haven't run at all this week.

I've gone to the gym to train my upper body a couple of times and done yoga multiple times.

I've focused on getting my steps in - which has been a struggle at times.

I listened to my body for the rest it needed.

2 Positive Outcomes

Sticking To Intentions

In the last month or so I've found it difficult to stick to all my intentions for each week.

I could be harsh on myself and let it eat away at me.

Instead, I've shown compassion to myself making it easier to get back on track when times get tough.

It's easier to bounce back when you don't fall into the trap of being hard.

If you aim for perfection you'll always end in failure.

Tantrum Doughnuts

A visit to Glasgow city centre means a visit here.

Legit the best doughnuts in the world.

Fight me.

3 Things I've Learned

Big Runs Have a Big Comedown

Last weekend was my peak week running.

It was tough, physically and mentally. Afterwards, I was sore for a few days before I fully recovered.

It also took me out mentally. I went to the gym on Monday morning and I couldn't find the intensity I usually have. There was something blocking me.

I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I realised it was the comedown from the run at the weekend.

I was probably still depleted calories wise despite eating roughly 3000 both days at the weekend.

Being patient and letting myself recover was what I decided was the best course of action.

Don't Try To Create The 'Perfect' Post

When I started out with this writing thing, I tried so hard to make every post 'perfect'.

The right feature image, the proper grammar and words.

It's not Higher English. No one really cares if you're writing in the correct tense.

In reality, the best approach is to create and post consistently.

You can learn what generates a positive response and what doesn't.

The same goes for when you write a post you think had a great underlying message and is well thought out only for it not to do as well as you hoped.

That doesn't bother me.

The process of creating gives me satisfaction.

Environment Matters

This week I've been fortunate enough to write in a coffee shop - twice

My productivity is much better compared to when I'm at home.

There are fewer distractions and I don't feel the urge to stop and go sit on the couch.

It doesn't feel like a chore when I'm out of the house either.

Plus I can have coffee or 2 when I'm writing.

Changing up your own environment could look something like joining a new gym, running a new route or even working at a different desk in the office (if it's possible).
