1-2-3 Sundays: NYC, Blockchain & Travelling

This week's edition is coming from New York. I'm on holiday.

1 Theme

Managing Expectations

No matter what you do, there are expectations. Whether they're shaped by yourself, those around you or the media you choose to consume.

Unfortunately, not everything will reach your expectations no matter how much you think it will.

You can become disillusioned and then disappointed when it doesn't match the standards you set.

We've all experienced this.

However. sometimes the best experiences in life come from a place where there are no expectations.

This means having an open mind to numerous possibilities.

When you're in a situation where your expectation isn't met, what can you do?

Here's the method I use.

  • Take a step back and assess the situation.
  • What can you do right now to make the best of the situation?
  • Don't let it annoy you.

2 Positive Outcomes

A Change of Scenario

This is my first trip abroad since October 2019.

Experiencing a new environment has helped me relax and recover from the toils of everyday life.

It's like an expanded version of mediation. You can block out the outside noise and focus on being present. You can enjoy each new experience.

I was also able to try out some new gyms and go for a run through Central Park.

Changing up your training environment is a fun way to test yourself as a marker of your progress.

If there's different equipment to your usual gym then you can be creative and try them out.

A New City

Another city ticked off my list.

The food and coffee have been amazing.

You can go from one culture (Chinatown) to another (Little Italy) by crossing the road.

It's a fast-paced lifestyle in New York - the streets are always busy with people bustling about.

The buildings are incredible too - some stunning architecture.

3 Things I've Learned

Blockchain

I thought blockchain was only about trading Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

It's much more than that.

I've been reading Blockchain Revolution which looks at the technology of blockchain and how it is shaping our future.

Blockchain allows for the management, storage and transfer of assets in a secure manner.

It gets rid of the middle man (governments and banks) and works by storing transactions on a peer-to-peer network.

Each transaction is stored on the chain which has the complete history of ownership - a new part of the chain is added every 10 minutes.

Boundaries Are Important

I love being in the company of others. You laugh, talk about pretty much anything and it's good for your brain.

I also love having time by myself. Whether it's going for a walk, sitting reading a book or using my time to do a solo activity - having the space is important.

It helps with my overall health. It allows deep thinking and uncovering of new ideas which previously would've been left untouched.

The time on my own allows me to recharge, being fresh and present in the company of others.

To do this, you have to set boundaries.

This isn't always an easy thing to do. People will always be looking to have their influence over you despite their best intentions.

Reminding yourself of your goals is what matters. This will make it easier to set boundaries.

Make The Most of Your Holidays

Just get away and have a good time.

1-2-3 Sundays: Success, Hot Cross Buns & Training
1 ThemeWhat is Success?I’ve been thinking about what success is this week. For starters, it’s not the same for everyone. Success is often placed on a job title, buying a house or the clothes we wear. For others, it’s internal - satisfaction from the work you do or having
